FAQ license activation

Failures can occur during the activation of licenses. Below are the most common causes

Software lock or hardware lock

Licenses of Matrix software can be arranged via a software lock (authorization code) or via a hardware lock (USB key, also called key or dongle). Switching between the two types of licensing is done through the settings in the dialog where the license is to be activated. After choosing "Settings," the following dialog appears:

license_authorising_faq_1

The Softlock or Hardlock can be used to choose whether it is a software license (authorization code) or a hardware license (USB key or dongle)

Softlock

Network: Concerns a Software Multi User (SMU) license, which is activated on a server

License Server Address: The IP address od fe DNS name of the server on which the license server is installed

Local: Refers to a Software Stand Alone (SSA) license, which is activated on the PC itself

Activate: A dialog appears where the authorization code can be entered. During activation a connection is established with the license server at Matrix Software via port 5094. For connection problems, see the FAQ on firewalls.

TCP and UDP ports for accessing the server from the client are 5093 and 5099.

Fingerprint: Is for support purposes through the Matrix Service desk

Cleanup: Is for support purposes via the Matrix Service desk

Hardlock

Sentinel SuperPro: Current and supported type of all hardware dongles

Other types: Obsolete types of keys that are no longer supported but may still be in use

Network key: Check box if network key is involved

License server address: The IP address or DNS name of the server or PC to which the network key is connected

SuperPro serial number: The unique 4-digit serial number of each hardlock. This number is ip the label of the hardlock

Note:

Hardware locks are no longer issued.

Firewall settings

The software lock license connects once via the internet to the Matrix Software license server. Set the firewall settings so that activation can take place via port 5094 to the url activation.matrix-software.com.

See the Firewall troubleshooting section later on this page.

Time zone

Make sure that the date at your own location is the same as the date at the time of requesting/receiving the license from the Netherlands. The time zone of the Matrix Software license server is in GMT+1.

New hardware

The softlock is encrypted with multiple unique numbers of hardware components of the computer or server. If any of the hardware components are changed, the license may no longer function. In this case, please contact the Service desk of Matrix Software. Call +31 (0)24 201 00 64 or leave a message on our service page

New operatingsysteem

If the operating system is reinstalled and the system is given the same computer name and the hardware has not changed, you can use the original authorization code again. If you install a newer operating system, the original authorization code cannot be used again. Please contact the Matrix Software service desk. Call +31 (0)24 201 00 64 or leave a message on our service page

Moving of USB-keys or dongles

The license data of a hardware lock is stored in the USB key itself. As soon as this dongle is connected to another computer or server, the license is immediately available via the other computer. The license activation procedure does not have to be performed again for this

Firewall settings trouble shooting

First of all, make sure you install all software as administrator.

Firewall problems can be caused by PC Firewall but also from Network Firewall.

To verify the status of the Matrix license activation service follow this link. This is an online test. If it succeeds it means that the activation server is active and that the issue is in your network or PC.

When activation service is active but activating a license still won't work a Matrix connection test utility has been made available to pinpoint the issue on your PC.

This utility can be downloaded from the Matrix download server from this location on our download server.

! Note that the utility is not digitally signed, so your webbrowser will issue a warning.

After downloading the utility it can be started by doubleclicking on the file.

It should display the following output:

Add a new line that opens the local port 5094. After this it should be possible to access the license server. This can be checked by 'pinging' again using the procedure described earlier.
