Beam web yielding and buckling check

The check of the beam web yielding and buckling must be performed according to the NEN-EN 1993-1-1+C2 chapter 6.5.3. The check must be done for connections with a possibility to transfer a concentrated load to the supporting beam web as shown in the pictures below:

a)

Acting external force FEd is equal to sum of shear forces on both sides of a column

b)

External force FEd is equal to top column axial force and sum of shear forces in beam on both sides of a column

In case a) the acting external force FEd will be assumed as equal to sum of shear forces acting on both sides of a column (V1 and V2). The external force FEd in case b) will be equal to top column axial force and sum of shear forces in beam on both sides of a column (V1 and V2). In case a) the spreading length of the force FEd must be provided in associated edit field.

The check according to the NEN-EN 1993-1-1+C2 chapter 6.5.3 can be skipped if appropriate stiffeners are provided as shown in the pictures below. Also it is possible to apply the other measures (concreting …) for prevention of the beam web buckling. In such case calculations according to the NEN-EN 1993-1-1+C2 chapter 6.5.3 can be avoided by making off the "Check on Force distribution" checkmark.
