Buckling definition

In Buckling tab of Concrete Columns grid section it is possible to choose different methods for estimation of buckling length according rules defined in design code. Method and Buckling system can be defined here separately for each buckling plane. For Wall elements only in main plane buckling length can be calculated, or manually defined. Wall element support conditions can be defined in grope Wall of this tab.

Concrete columns: buckling

For proper calculations of column buckling length it is necessary to define special Buckling combinations. It is possible to create it manually or using Generating procedure:

Loads combination generator

During generation two load cases and two Buckling combinations will be generated:

Loads combinations: buckling

These combinations will be used for calculation of rotational stiffness at column ends.

If at least one Buckling combination is not provided, calculations will be limited to NEN 6720 table 27 and warning will appear:

Warning: buckling combination not defined

If buckling combination is provided calculations according to tables 27, 28 and 29 will be allowed:

Concrete columns: Buckling (method)

Buckling length can be provided manually by choosing Buck.System value "User".

It is possible to perform GNL analysis. In such case it is not necessary to take into account non-linearities by means of formulas from code NEN 6720 and grid column Method will be protected and filled with labels "G.N.L.".
